After she had been waiting for her husband to arrive home on Valentine´s Day for a month, she was finally able to see him.

ZEINAB: The first clause needs to be a dependent one, not an independent one;-)
YOSUA:You need to put the phrase 'for a month' next to the words it really modifies. I don't think you mean that she waited for a month after Valentine's Day;-)

Saint Valentine had been baptizing people many years before the emperor Claudius condemned him to death.

SARA: The first element is an independent one, but the 2nd one is not an independent clause;-)
YOSUA:Good--do you understand the difference in meaning?
RUFUS:That first clause should be a dependent one and the second an independent one;-)
ALEXEY: You need the rethink the clauses: dependent clause + independent clause.

People have been celebrating since Valentine was started by the Roman Empire centuries ago.

In spite of the fact that Saint Valentine had been baptizing people many years, the emperor Claudius condemned him to death.

ZEINAB: Sorry--you still haven't fixed that problem:-(
ALEXEY: That's better grammatically--it doesn't necessarily make good sense!

Daniel sounded very surprised when we phoned to invite him out for Valentine's Day, for he had been trying to phone us.

PEGGY:OK--the clause order is mixed up, but otherwise you do have the elements.
