*SENTENCE COMBINATION*

Learning to combine ideas into more complex sentences is an important writing skill. There are many ways to do this. Try to combine the following three sentences.

Sentence 1: Many people attended Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 11th.
Sentence 2In the United States, November 11th is called Veterans Day.
Sentence 3: Many people wear poppies to commemorate the flowers that grew in many World War I battlefields.

Here goes:

In the United States, many people wear poppies in November to commemorate the flowers that grew in many World War I battlefields and attend Remembrance Day ceremonies on November 11th, also known as Veterans Day.

Great effort, everyone!

Audrey, watch your relative pronoun use. In your sentence, "which" forms the object of the verb ("attend"), so you cannot add "ceremonies" as the object.

Here is another possible solution:

Many people wear poppies to commemorate the flowers that grew in World War I battlefields and, on November 11th, many attended ceremonies for Remembrance Day, which is called Veteran's Day in the United States.

Watch out for the comma splice, Bailey. Also, try to post comments to an older blog edition after the newer edition comes out; otherwise, I may miss your comments!
