**TIME CHANGE, March 19th, 2013**

Change the time (verb tense) in the following sentence; replace any time clue words as necessary.

I am on my way to a party for my sister’s birthday. I have to drive across town, so I am allowing myself forty minutes for that, but I hear on the radio that there is an accident on the freeway that may delay me. I have my cell phone with me, so I can phone to tell her about the situation.

Note that there is more than one way to do this, and each student should choose a different time frame with different time clues.

I would be going to a party for my sister's birthday. I would have to drive across town, so I would have to allow myself forty minutes for that, but I would hear on the radio that there is an accident on the freeway that may delay me. I would have my cell phone with me, so I would be able to phone to tell her about the situation.

I was on my way to my sister's birthday party and had to drive across town, so I gave myself forty minutes. Then I had heard on the radio that there was an accident on the freeway that would delay me. I had my cell phone with me, so I called and told her the situation.

Yesterday, I had been on my way to a party for my sister's birthday. I had had to drive across town and had allowed myself fourty minutes for that, when I had heard on the radio that there had been an accident on the freeway that might have delayed me. I had had my cell phone with me, so I had been able to phone to tell her about the situation.

SALEHA: A good choice to use modals, but do change that one verb that is in the simple present tense;-)
VALERIE:You've made sufficient changes from Zeinab's answer so that this works, but it's better to choose a different time frame;-)
NAZNEEN:That works--well done!
PEGGY: Excellent!
