A phrase: Yesterday a gentle snow fell on the quiet streets. A dependent clause: A gentle snow fell on the quiet streets after we returned form work. An independent clause: A gentle snow fell on the quiet streets, but it melted quickly as the temperature was above zero.
Sentence 1. A gentle snow fell on the quiet streets that night. Sentence 2. I didn't wear any jacket that night, even though a gentle snow fell on the quiet streets. Sentence 3. A gentle snow fell on the quiet streets, but her house was full of chatter and laughter.
