Change the time in the following sentences by using a different verb tense and replacing any necessary time clues. Each student should choose a different verb tense.
My friend was planning to take her first holiday in many years, but was so concerned about the problems that might crop while she was away that she cancelled her reservations and postponed trip for another year.

My friend is planning to take her first holiday in many years, but is so concerned about the problems that might crop while she is away that she is going to cancel her reservations and postpone the trip for another year.
Oops. I meant to say "crop up" (but you knew that).
Good try, Annie. I made some changes:
My friend had planned to take her first holiday in many years, but had become so concerned about the problems that might occur during her absence that she cancelled her reservations and postponed her trip for another year.
Olena, your answer needs to address the contradiction between "is planning" and "is going to cancel". Grammatically, there is no problem; but logically, it doesn't seem to make sense. Here is a possibility:
My friend was planning to take her first holiday in many years, but is so concerned about the problems that might crop up while she is away that she is going to cancel her reservations and postpone the trip for another year.
I was worried about that part, Michael. The problem I had was that I felt like the time change has to occur for every verb to be successful in this exercise. I guess I was wrong :)
