**VOCABULARY, April 4th, 2013**
Vocabulary building is important for both reading comprehension and writing. Use the following two words (note the part of speech) in one sentence.
heist (noun) + spasmodically (adverb)
SYNONYMS & ANTONYMS, April 4th, 2013
We can describe someone who is disloyal as traitorous. Provide a synonym and an antonym for this word—each student should write a different word for each.
**ACTIVE & PASSIVE, April 4th, 2013**
Write one sentence in the active voice and one in the passive voice using the verb draw.
**TIME CHANGE, April 4th, 2013**
Change the time (verb tense) in the following sentence; replace any time clue words as necessary.
The Easter Egg hunt proved to be more difficult than usual this year because of the amount of snow that is still on the ground. As a result, the hunt was held indoors. The children stayed warm and dry; however they did not stay clean. They were happily eating chocolate eggs and getting chocolate on their hands, faces, and clothes.
Note that there is more than one way to do this, and each student should choose a different time frame with different time clues.
**SENTENCE COMBINATION, April 4th, 2013**
Learning to combine ideas into more complex sentences is an important skill in writing. There are many ways to do this--many possible bonus points! Try to combine the following three sentences.
Sentence 1: Children were not in school for April Fool’s Day this year.
Sentence 2: Most of their practical jokes were restricted to their homes and families.
Sentence 3: Parents probably wished that their children were in school.
**BUILD-A-SENTENCE, April 4th, 2013**
The following question is similar to the one in part 3 of the Engl 140 final exam. There are many possible answers. Write a sentence using the vocabulary, grammar, and order indicated.
April + a clause in the future progressive tense + an independent clause in the simple future tense.
