We can describe to show or prove the truth about something as to vindicate. Provide a synonym and an antonym for this word--each student should write one different word for each.

**ACTIVE & PASSIVE, March 4th, 2013**

Write one sentence in the active voice and one in the passive voice using the verb give.

**TIME CHANGE, March 4th, 2013**

Change the time (verb tense) in the following sentence;  replace any time clue words as necessary.

While I was going to a concert yesterday, I was also planning what to do to celebrate my friend’s birthday.

Each student should use a different verb tense and change any time clues accordingly.

**SENTENCE COMBINATION, March 4th, 2013**

Learning to combine ideas into more complex sentences is an important skill in writing. There are many ways to do this--many possible bonus points! Try to combine the following three sentences into just ONE sentence.

1. Daylight Saving Time begins on March 10^th this year.
2. Spring officially starts on March 20^th this year.
3. Despite the calendar information and time change, most of Canada is still definitely experiencing winter.

**BUILD-A-SENTENCE, March 4th, 2013**

The following question is similar to the one in part 3 of the Engl 140 final exam. There are many possible answers. Write a sentence using the vocabulary and grammar indicated.
